Telugu superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna, who is set to make his Bollywood comeback after 17 years, with Ayan Mukerji's ambitious superhero film, Brahmastra, will reportedly be seen essaying the role of an archaeologist in the film.
The much-awaited fantasy drama also stars real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
Notably, Nagarjuna last appeared in a Hindi film in 2003 in JP Dutta's war-drama LOC: Kargil.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Nagarjuna, whose character brings a crucial turn in the film's story, has already shot his portions in Varanasi, in June.
The shooting took place extensively at various locations in the ancient city, such as the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the Chet Singh Fort, and on the banks of the Ganga river.
"Nagarjuna's character, along with his (the character's) students, undertakes an expedition to restore an ancient temple along the banks of the Ganga," the report said, while quoting a source.
Further, Ranbir's character in the film is named Shiva, who reportedly has the superpower of emitting fire from his bare hands, whereas Alia plays Isha, Shiva's love-interest.
On the other hand, actors Mouni Roy and Saurav Gurjar will be playing antagonists in the movie.
Meanwhile, veteran Amitabh Bachchan will reportedly be seen in the role of Shiva's mentor in the film, who's called Brahma.
In good news for fans of Shah Rukh Khan, the 54-year-old superstar will also appear in a cameo role in the movie. In fact, he recently shot his part in the film at the Big Magic Reliance Studio at the Mumbai Film City.
Coming back to the film, Brahmastra would mark Mukerji's third directorial venture, after Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, both of which featured Ranbir.
Bankrolled by Karan Johar, Brahmastra will serve as the first movie in a planned trilogy.
Earlier planned to be released on Christmas this year, it will now hit the theaters in Summer 2020, due to unfinished VFX work.
