Prabhas' 'Saaho' beats Shahid Kapoor's 'Kabir Singh' in opening weekend
Prabhas starrer Saaho, one of the most-anticipated movies of 2019, turned out to be a disappointment for audiences and critics. However, despite that, Saaho (Hindi version) is minting gold at the box office, with a collection of Rs. 79.08cr. In fact, it has recorded the best Sunday of 2019 by beating Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh and Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal at the box office.
Notably, Saaho, which opened to a collection of Rs. 24.40cr on its day of release, witnessed a decent jump in its earnings in the opening weekend. According to Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie raked in Rs. 29.48cr on its first Sunday. Interestingly, it is much higher than Kabir Singh and Mission Mangal's third-day collection, which were Rs. 27.91cr and Rs. 27.54cr respectively.
#Saaho sets the BO on 🔥🔥🔥... Shows big gains on Day 3... Packs a phenomenal total in its opening weekend... North and East India are exceptional, other circuits fantastic too... Fri 24.40 cr, Sat 25.20 cr, Sun 29.48 cr. Total: ₹ 79.08 cr Nett BOC. India biz. #Hindi version.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) September 2, 2019
Meanwhile, Saaho also surpassed the opening weekend collection of SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali: The Beginning, starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati in the lead roles. To recall, the 2015 release had made a collection of Rs. 22.35cr on the opening weekend in that year.
To note, Saaho was released in four languages - Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. However, it is the Hindi version of the movie that has been setting the box office on fire. "The Hindi version has done far better than Telugu and Tamil versions. Thanks to the Hindi version, the film had a great opening weekend at the ticket window," trade analyst Trinath stated.
Meanwhile, Saaho became the recent target of Tamilrockers. The movie was leaked online by the piracy giant within hours of its theatrical release, and was available for download on torrent websites. It was expected that the online leak might affect box office collections of Saaho, but it seems that the movie remains unfazed by piracy, and continues to go strong at the box office.
