What's the story

Priya Dutt, the youngest daughter of legendary actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis, is set to pay tribute to her late parents with a nostalgic concert titled Yaadon Ki Geetmala - Down Memory Lane. The event will take place on Friday, December 12, at Worli's Nehru Auditorium. Six singers will perform timeless songs associated with the two icons.

Initial doubts

Dutt initially had reservations about concert's popularity

Dutt confessed to Mid-Day that she was initially skeptical about the concert's potential to attract an audience. She said, "Initially I was wary whether the concert would draw in people. I thought to myself that not many would identify with these songs, but the organizers were convinced that they had hit the right notes, and then I was too."

Tribute details

Concert to feature rare photographs of the late actors

The concert will not only showcase the music associated with Sunil and Nargis but also provide a glimpse into their lives. Rare photographs of the iconic couple will be displayed, offering an insight into their journey. The proceeds from this event will go to the Nargis Dutt Foundation, which has been aiding underprivileged cancer patients since its inception in 1981. Nargis suffered from pancreatic cancer and died in 1981 at age 51. Sunil (75) died in his sleep in 2005.

Foundation's focus

Waheeda Rehman, Manisha Koirala expected to attend

Speaking about leading the foundation over the years, Dutt said, "We started working in the education space in 2012, though cancer remains front and center. My next passion is to start an animal welfare fund." The concert is expected to be attended by veteran actor Waheeda Rehman and actor-cancer survivor Manisha Koirala.

Event details

Organizers received positive response for the concert

Deepak Kapadia, the program organizer, shared that his idea of organizing an event for cancer patients led him to the Nargis Dutt Foundation. He said, "I met Priya Dutt, and gradually we went from an idea to an event. We have a robust response already." Prashant Rao will host the evening, and he added, "I am a Sunil-Nargis Dutt fan. So I will weave in anecdotes between songs."
