What's the story

PVR INOX, a leading cinema exhibition company in India, has reportedly introduced an affordable movie-viewing experience in Tier III cities with its new format called PVR INOX Smart Cinemas. The first Smart Cinema will open in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Friday, August 7. This initiative aims to provide a premium cinematic experience at lower rates as compared to flagship multiplexes in metro cities.

Details

What to expect at PVR INOX Smart Cinemas?

PVR INOX Smart Cinemas will offer a signature movie-viewing experience with 2K laser projection, 7.1 surround sound, an economical food-and-beverage menu, well-maintained auditoriums, and a welcoming environment.

The company aims to make the cinematic experience more accessible amid stiff competition from digital platforms.

The new format will be launched through a capital-efficient FOCO (Franchise-Owned, Company-Operated) model targeting emerging urban centers.

Ticket prices

What about ticket prices?

PVR INOX Smart Cinemas aims to bring affordable movie ticket prices to smaller regions than metro cities.

Ticket prices at flagship PVR INOX multiplexes in metros like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru typically range between ₹250 and ₹500 for regular shows.

The ticket prices can even climb higher for premium formats.

This is where movie tickets at Smart Cinemas will be priced around 30-35% lower, the company claimed.

Additional offerings

Will there be a change in food and beverage options?

Apart from cheaper movie tickets, PVR INOX Smart Cinemas will also offer affordable food and beverage options to make movie outings more economical.

The company plans to introduce these options in its Smart Cinema, similar to PVR Cafe in metros.

However, it is important to note that ticket prices vary from film to film, and the official pricing has not yet been announced.

6 more Smart Cinemas are coming soon

PVR INOX has reportedly signed six more Smart Cinemas properties that are expected to open in the next nine months.

The company is also in talks with developers to expand this format in several other markets.

Managing Director Ajay Bijli said in a statement, "With PVR INOX SMART Cinemas, we are building on that legacy by creating a cinema concept designed for India's fastest-growing Tier III cities."
