The case against Rohatgi was registered following a complaint by Bundi resident and a leader of the Youth Congress Charmesh Sharma. Sharma alleged that Rohatgi insulted the wives of Motilal Nehru and the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, in a Facebook video. The video also allegedly carried controversial remarks about former PM Indira Gandhi, Feroze Gandhi, and Lal Bahadur Shastri's suspicious death.
Last year, Rohatgi had claimed that the Kerala floods were a result of God's wrath due to cow slaughter. Separately, in June this year, she made controversial remarks about the caste of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Thereafter, an NCP leader filed a police complaint against her. She then issued a video apology. Recently, Rohatgi alleged the Mumbai Police had blocked her on Twitter.
Rohatgi, who made her movie debut in 2002 with Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai?, has done many Bollywood films like Plan, Rakht, 36 China Town, and Dil Kabaddi. She was also a contestant on second season of popular reality TV show Bigg Boss in 2008.
