What's the story

The second part of Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious project, Ramayana, is likely to go on floors in January 2026. The film stars an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sunny Deol, Sai Pallavi, Ravie Dubey, Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta, and Vivek Oberoi. Despite some scheduling conflicts due to the lead actors' commitments and Deol's personal situation, pre-production for this massive undertaking is already underway, reported Entertainment Times.

Scheduling conflicts

'Ramayana 2' faced delays due to lead actors' commitments

The filming for Ramayana 2 was initially scheduled to begin in August 2025, but it was later postponed. Kapoor is currently busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love and War in Mumbai and will film in Italy in December for about 20 days. Meanwhile, Yash is occupied with Geetu Mohandas's Toxic, which will release on March 19, 2026.

Personal situation

Deol prioritizing family amid 'Ramayana 2' filming delays

Adding to the scheduling challenges is Deol's family situation. The actor, who plays Lord Hanuman in the movie, is currently focusing on his father Dharmendra amid the veteran actor's health scare. For the unversed, the Sholay star was recently hospitalized due to breathing difficulties. Although his condition has stabilized, Deol is expected to resume work only once things settle at home.

Production progress

Pre-production underway

Pre-production work including costume detailing, set design, and VFX planning is already underway to ensure a smooth start once filming begins. Meanwhile, the first part of this two-part retelling of the Indian epic has already been filmed and is slated for a 2026 release, while the second part is reportedly expected to arrive in 2027.
