What's the story

Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor has denied having dementia. This comes a day after his nephew Ranbir Kapoor told a portal about his uncle suffering from the early stages of the condition. While speaking about his father, Rishi Kapoor's last film Sharmaji Namkeen that premiered on Thursday on Amazon Prime Video, Ranbir shared about his uncle's condition. But, Randhir emphasized, "I am perfectly fine."

While clarifying about him not having dementia, Randhir told ETimes, "Aisa kuch nahi hua (Nothing like that). Not at all. I am perfectly fine. I just had COVID-19 sometime ago (in April 2021)." When asked why Ranbir said it at all, the senior Kapoor (75) said, "Ranbir ki marzi (it is Ranbir's choice); he is entitled to say what he wants."

In his interview, Ranbir also mentioned that after watching Sharmaji Namkeen, Randhir told him, "Tell dad that he is amazing, and where is he, let's call him," but the latter refuses saying that as well. "I never said that. I am alright. In fact, I have just returned from Goa with (filmmaker) Rahul Rawail. We were there at the Goa festival," he informed.

Separately, Ranbir will next be seen in Brahmastra. The sci-fi period drama is set to hit cinema halls on September 9 this year. Produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, it has been helmed by Ayan Mukerji. Apart from Ranbir as Shiva, the film co-stars Alia Bhatt as Isha, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and Shah Rukh Khan (cameo). Its shooting wrapped up on Tuesday.
