After 'Simmba', 'Gully Boy', Ranveer begins training for '83'
After the spectacular success of Simmba, Ranveer Singh is gearing up for his first release of the year Gully Boy. The actor plays the role of a street rapper and the intriguing trailer already raised our expectations from the movie. But before Gully Boy hits the screen, Ranveer started preparing for his next movie 83 which is a biopic on Kapil Dev. Here's more.
Helmed by Kabir Khan, 83 will track the Indian cricket team's glorious victory against West Indies during the 1983 World Cup. Ranveer will be seen essaying the role of former cricketer Kapil on screen. The movie will also showcase Kapil's journey to captaincy and the challenges his team faced during their road to winning the World Cup for the first time.
Ranveer is known for his dedication towards work and he proved it once again as he got into Kapil's shoes for 83. The actor was spotted practising on the field with former cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu. He also shared a black and white picture on Instagram where he is seen wearing cricketing pads and is trying to take a shot with his bat.
Ranveer is thrilled to be a part of 83 and is leaving no stone unturned to give his best to the role. He even said that it's a big deal for him to get into Kapil's shoes for 83. "He is a legend in the truest sense. He commands such respect in the cricket fraternity and has a vast fan following," Ranveer quipped.
Ranveer further stated that 83 is a story that needs to be told to generations. Besides, he always wanted to be a part of a movie that instills the feeling of national pride. With 83, Ranveer got that chance and he couldn't be happier. "The story of underdogs' triumph is completely lost. There is a whole generation that needs to know," Ranveer added.
Meanwhile, director Kabir Khan is also looking forward to directing 83. Being an ardent cricket fan, Kabir feels that 83 is one of the most exciting stories he has worked on. He is also elated to have Ranveer in the lead and finds him to be a perfect choice for Kapil's role. "Honestly I could see no one else for the role," Kabir added.
Interestingly, there were reports that Deepika Padukone would be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev's wife in 83. The reports got fans excited as this would have been DeepVeer's first project together post marriage. But much to everyone's disappointment, the reports turned out to be mere rumors. "Deepika playing his wife Romi sounds tempting, it's just not true," a source reportedly said.
