Rapper Tommy Genesis criticized for religious disrespect
Canadian rapper Tommy Genesis is under fire after her "True Blue" music video showed her in blue body paint, gold jewelry, and a bikini styled like the Hindu goddess Kali.
The video also features her licking a crucifix and doing a "namaste," which many viewers felt was disrespectful to both Hindu and Christian beliefs.
Indian rapper Raftaar called it a "mockery" of religion.
'It's not for you,' she told critics
Genesis didn't back down, saying, "If you like it, you like it, and if you don't, you don't. We don't care. It's not for you."
She made it clear she won't change her art for critics or religious sentiments.
Who is Tommy Genesis?
Born Yasmine Mohanraj in Vancouver to a Tamil-Malayali Christian dad and Swedish mom, Genesis started making music during art school.
