What's the story

The cult romantic drama Tere Naam (2003), starring Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla, is reportedly getting a sequel after two decades. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala is in advanced talks to acquire the franchise rights from Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh Talreja, who produced the original film. Nadiadwala hopes to bring Khan back for this second installment.

Actor's conditions

What does the buzz say

A source told Mid-Day, "Salman has heard about it. But nothing has been officially offered yet; he needs to see a workable script, budget, and the [division] of rights. He is not one to commit before clarity." The source added that Nadiadwala wants to own the intellectual property (IP) for creative freedom.

Casting details

New lead pair to be locked in

The source further revealed that a new lead pairing will be seen in Tere Naam 2, depending on whether Khan takes on the original role or a newer avatar. "Once the legal and financial packaging is done, they'll lock in Salman and only then announce a director. A tentative script is being worked upon," added the source.

Film's success

Everything to know about the original film

The original Tere Naam, directed by the late Satish Kaushik, revolves around Radhe (Khan), a hot-headed man deeply in love with Nirjara (Chawla), a traditional girl. However, fate takes a tragic turn when an accident leaves him mentally unstable. The film reportedly earned ₹24.54 crore at the global box office. It went on to become a cult classic.

Work commitments

Meanwhile, here's what Khan is up to

While the sequel to Tere Naam is in the works, Khan is currently busy shooting for Apoorva Lakhia's Battle of Galwan. The film focuses on India's military clash with China in the Galwan Valley and will hit theaters next year. Apart from this, he also hosts Bigg Boss 19.
