Oscar-nominated 'Anora' locks premiere date on JioHotstar

Critically acclaimed film Anora, starring Mikey Madison and Mark Eidelstein, will premiere on the streaming platform JioHotstar on March 17. The film has already created a lot of buzz with its six Oscar nominations in major categories such as Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director. It also won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.

Directed by Sean Baker, Anora follows a 23-year-old Brooklyn sex worker who marries the son of a wealthy and spoiled Russian oligarch. The film chronicles her journey as she navigates her new life, which is jeopardized when her husband's influential parents learn about their marriage. Apart from its top nominations, Anora has also received Oscar nods for Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

'Anora' OTT release followed censorship controversy
Initially, Anora was set for a theatrical release in India on November 8 last year. However, as the studio feared heavy cuts in scenes due to censorship disputes, it opted for an OTT release. The film also stars Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, and Aleksei Serebryakov in pivotal roles. Additionally, JioHotstar will also host the streaming of another Oscar contender, Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, on March 22.
