Singer Kanika Kapoor, who hid travel-history, tests positive for coronavirus
Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor, famous for the song Baby Doll, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, reports said on Friday. She had traveled to the United Kingdom, returned to India on March 9, but allegedly hid her travel details from the authorities. The singer has now been kept at an isolation ward in Lucknow's King George Medical University. Here are more details.
Not only did Kanika hide important information about her traveling, but she also put others at risk by staying at a five-star hotel in the Uttar Pradesh capital. She attended a party which had at least 100 other attendees. Kanika is among the four other people who tested positive for the virus. The number of infected people in Lucknow has swelled to nine.
Since it originated in China in mid-December, coronavirus has wreaked havoc across the world. Over 10,000 have died and nearly 300,000 are infected globally. In India, the virus has taken the lives of five people, one each in Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The one, who passed away in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur, was an Italian tourist.
Kanika's behavior at a time when the world is scrambling to deal with the pandemic is careless, to say the least. Her industry is suffering too, with most shoots being postponed and movie releases deferred. Considering the outbreak, producers of movies like Sooryavanshi, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and 83, have stalled the release. Bollywood will reportedly incur losses of Rs. 800 crore.
To note, a flurry of Bollywood celebrities have asked citizens to stay at home and take precautions. This morning, power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli posted a video asking people to self-isolate. Actor Kartik Aaryan also put out a video, ranting that no one understands how severe the situation is. His video has gone viral since last evening.
