Sonam Kapoor added Ahuja to her surname soon after tying the knot with her businessman beau Anand Ahuja.
The decision by the 'Neerja' actress drew mixed reactions from netizens and in no time, it became a matter of debate on the social media.
Now, in a recent interview with a media house, Sonam has opened up about her decision to change her surname.
Internet users were quick to call her out and also brought feminism into the discussion.
"I don't understand what was the rush to change her surname? In one moment Sonam Kapoor went from a fiery diva to a patriarchy conforming aunty. Will she ask her husband to also add the K in his Surname," wrote Pooja Gianchandani.
Reacting to the uproar, Sonam said, "I have been engaged for a long time. It took me a long time to decide. It's a choice, at the end of the day. And if people don't understand the concept of feminism, they need to go online and look at the description."
"And how do you know Anand has not changed his name," she added.
Sonam is currently in the French Riviera for the Cannes Film Festival. The diva has been slaying it there, one stunning outfit at a time. Post this, Sonam will indulge in the promotional activities of her upcoming release 'Veere Di Wedding'.
