What's the story
The 2026 Sundance Film Festival will feature new projects from Hollywood stars like Channing Tatum, Alexander Skarsgard, Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, Rashida Jones, and Charli XCX. The festival will run in Park City, Utah, from January 22 to February 1, marking its final edition in the state before relocating to Boulder, Colorado, in 2027. It also marks the first festival since Sundance Institute founder Robert Redford passed away on September 16 at age 89.

Sundance 2026 to honor late founder Redford
The 2026 Sundance Film Festival will pay tribute to Redford, who founded the Sundance Institute in 1981. Amanda Kelso, acting CEO of the Sundance Institute, said in a press release that this year's festival will be a "pivotal and memorable moment" as they celebrate artists and their visionary works while honoring Redford's transformative vision. She added, "We are eager to once again foster connection and creativity as we champion and share independent storytelling with audiences."

'Josephine,' 'The Gallerist,' 'The Invite' among 2026 premieres
Among the 90 feature films and seven episodic projects from 28 countries are XCX in The Gallerist, which is backed by producer-star Portman; Tatum and Gemma Chan in Josephine; and the Wilde-directed, Jones-written The Invite, featuring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton, and Wilde. Skarsgard will be seen in Wicker (co-starring Peter Dinklage and Olivia Colman) as well as The Moment co-starring XCX.

Sundance 2026 to feature 'Park City Legacy' program
The festival's first half will host premieres and events in Park City and Salt Lake City, while the second half will offer at-home programming. The Park City Legacy program will celebrate the festival's history with archival screenings of standout films from past editions and conversations with notable alumni. Meanwhile, Ed Harris and filmmaker Gyula Gazdag will be receiving the Robert Redford Luminary Award.
