Taapsee Pannu talks about returning to action with Netflix's 'Gandhari'
What's the story
Taapsee Pannu, who is all set to return to the action genre with her upcoming film Gandhari, has revealed that she was deliberately avoiding such roles for a long time. Speaking at the Jagran Film Festival, the actor said that audiences have been asking her to do more action films since Baby and Naam Shabana. However, she wasn't ready due to the physical exertion involved in these sequences.
Physical demands
Doesn't enjoy hitting people physically, says Pannu
Pannu, who plays Bani in Gandhari, told PTI, "Since Baby and Naam Shabana, people have been after me to do action, but I've been avoiding it because it takes a lot of physical effort for me to do action."
"First of all, I don't enjoy hitting people physically. Even though my image says otherwise. I generally don't like hitting people. I'm a non-violent person that way."
Budget constraints
No budget for advanced techniques in her films
Pannu further explained that her films usually don't have the budget for advanced techniques like face replacement, which means she has to do all the action herself.
"My films generally don't have the budget to have face replacement or the easy green-screen action. I have to do everything myself. So it can become physically very taxing," she said.
New approach
Wanted to offer audiences something new in 'Gandhari': Pannu
Apart from the physical demands, Pannu said she wanted her return to action to offer audiences something new.
"I wanted to do action that takes it a level above what I've done before. Only then is it worth attempting action again."
"So I've tried doing that. I hope the audience is satisfied and likes this as much or more than what they've seen me doing before," she explained.
Film release
More on 'Gandhari' and creative equation with Kanika Dhillon
Gandhari, directed by Devashish Makhija and written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, is a story of a mother who fiercely protects her child.
It will be released on Netflix on September 3.
Pannu also spoke about her unique creative equation with Dhillon.
"She comes to me with a script that's basically just a storyline and screenplay."
"I tell her what I liked and not liked...and then she writes the whole script keeping that in mind and keeping me in mind."
