Surprise! 'The Simpsons' is dropping four exclusive episodes on Disney+
The Simpsons fans, rejoice! In a surprising twist, the popular animated series is set to release four new episodes exclusively on Disney+. The announcement was made by the show's executive producers at the D23 convention in Anaheim. This development comes as the series gears up for its 36th season premiere on Fox this fall. The exclusive episodes include a two-part Christmas special, O Come All Ye Faithful, scheduled to debut on December 17.
Other exclusive episodes and Halloween special
In addition to the Christmas special, two other episodes titled The Past and the Furious and Yellow Planet will be released on Disney+ in the coming months. Furthermore, an exclusive Halloween-themed short from The Simpsons is set to premiere on the streaming platform in October. This follows several exclusive shorts that have previously aired on Disney+, including The Force Awakens from Its Nap, The Good, the Bart, and the Loki, and Plusaversary.
'The Simpsons's first exclusive episode for Disney+
This marks the first time that The Simpsons has produced an entire episode exclusively for Disney+. This move raises questions about the future of the show on Fox, especially considering another 20th TV animation show on Fox, Family Guy, which is also producing original episodes for Hulu alongside its Fox run. The Simpsons panel on stage at D23 also revealed that the 18 episodes from Season 35—which aired on Fox last season—will be available on Disney+ starting October 2.
Season 36 plans unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con
At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, The Simpsons revealed some of its plans for Season 36. This includes a collaboration with Stoopid Buddy (Robot Chicken) for the annual Treehouse of Horror event this fall. The producers also announced a "second scary trilogy" inspired by Ray Bradbury, titled Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes, promising stories that are "dark and funny and in the Halloween spirit."
