Ranbir has one release in next two years, but why?

Ranbir has one release in next two years, but why?

With debonair looks, brilliant acting prowess, an overshadowing screen presence, and impressive filmography, Ranbir Kapoor is one star you simply can't get enough of. But unfortunately, as it turns out, you will have to wait a lot longer to see him on the silver screen next. Writing with a heavy heart, Ranbir has no release this year, and only one in 2020. Here's why.

Ranbir was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani's 'Sanju'

To recall, Ranbir's last release, the blockbuster Sanju, based on the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, arrived almost a year ago (June, 2018). Ever since, Ranbir has been busy filming for two major upcoming projects, namely Brahmastra and Shamshera.

    What is causing the delay?

Both Brahmastra and Shamshera are grand ventures, that require months of filming from their main stars like Ranbir. Reports suggest that Ranbir was supposed to start shooting for Shamshera after the completion of Brahmastra. But since Ayan Mukherji's epic adventure drama's shooting is taking longer than expected, the producers have mutually decided on a later release date for Shamshera.

'Shamshera' will now release in 2021

According to sources, Brahmastra producer Karan Johar requested close friend and mentor Aditya Chopra (producer of Shamshera), to change their schedule. As it turns out, Adi complied to the request. Shamshera will now release in 2021. And our beloved Ranbir will stay missing from the big screen for the whole of this year.

Meanwhile, the couple recently returned from 'Brahmastra' shoot in Varanasi

'Brahmastra' is an ambitious fantasy-drama; 'Shamshera' a dacoit drama

Notably, Ayan Mukherji directorial, Brahmastra is a fantasy adventure film, starring Ranbir, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. Serving as first part in a planned trilogy, it is slated for release in Summer 2020. On the other hand, Karan Malhotra's Shamshera is a period, dacoit drama set against India's Independence struggle in the 1800s. It also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor.
