He said cooperation between India and ASEAN is crucial for peace and prosperity across Asia. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent PM Modi at the 20th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur on October 27, where regional challenges will be discussed.

India's formal engagement with ASEAN began in 1992 as a "Sectoral Dialogue Partner" and was upgraded to a "Dialogue Partner" in 1995. PM Modi has attended all ASEAN-India Summits since 2014, barring one in 2022. At the Commemorative Summit in January 2018, leaders of all 10 ASEAN countries attended India's Republic Day Parade as guests of honor.
