21 laborers killed after truck falls into gorge in Arunachal
What's the story
At least 21 people were killed after a vehicle carrying daily wage laborers from Assam's Tinsukia district fell into a gorge in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. The incident took place while the vehicle was traversing hilly terrain and reportedly lost control, plunging nearly 1,000 feet into the gorge. So far, rescue teams have recovered 13 bodies from the site of the accident.

The accident occurred on the Hayuliang-Chaglagam Road at Lailang Basti between Mithungna and Mailang Basti. The workers were all from Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia and were headed to Hayuliang for construction work when the accident happened. A video shows the lone survivor, severely injured and with his face covered in blood, stating that they were en route to carry out concrete slabbing work in Hayuliang when the accident occurred.

Rescue operations are currently underway in Anjaw district, with local authorities and disaster response teams on-site. This accident comes just days after another tragic incident in Nashik's Kalwan taluka, Maharashtra. On December 7, six people died when a car plunged into a 600-foot deep gorge in Saptashring Garh Ghat. The victims were residents of Pimpalgaon Baswant in Niphad taluka.
