7 Maoists, including divisional leaders, surrender in Chhattisgarh

India

Seven members of the banned CPI (Maoist) Udanti Area Committee, wanted for violent attacks in Gariaband, Dhamtari, and adjoining districts of Odisha, surrendered to police in Gariaband this week.
Among them were two divisional leaders, each carrying an ₹8 lakh bounty.
Over the past decade, this group was linked to multiple armed encounters with security forces.

Maoists turned themselves in after growing disillusioned with their cause

The Maoists turned themselves in after growing disillusioned with their cause, especially as police crackdowns intensified in the region. They handed over six firearms.
Police officials say this is a big setback for local insurgents and signals that more might follow suit.
Now, under the state's rehab policy, these ex-insurgents will get support like financial aid, housing, education, and job opportunities to help them start fresh.
