Ajeet Bharti speaks at Delhi Jantar Mantar protest on reservations
YouTuber and journalist Ajeet Bharti was speaking at a protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, calling for big changes to India's reservation system.
The event, organized by Reservation Hatao Andolan, saw protesters detained by police for gathering without permission.
Ajeet Bharti outlines 4 reservation demands
Bharti laid out four main demands: a white paper on 80 years of reservation results, a "quota within quota" system, minimum marks for higher education admissions, and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) being made a part of the Scheduled Castes (SC).
He also questioned why the "creamy layer" rule isn't applied in it and argued that focusing on merit is key for progress.
The protest highlighted how some marginalized groups get left out due to politics and pushed for reservations based more on economic need than caste.
