Andhra Pradesh: 50 Maoists arrested after top commander killed

India

After the death of senior Maoist leader M Hidma and five others on November 18, Andhra Pradesh police launched a major crackdown, arresting 50 CPI (Maoist) operatives across several districts.
The crackdown followed intelligence about possible Maoist plans for unrest and retaliation after the encounter.

What went down

Those arrested had escaped from Chhattisgarh and were hiding in Krishna, Eluru, NTR, Kakinada, and Konaseema districts.
Among them were key committee members who'd been under pressure from ongoing security operations.
Police also seized ₹12.7 lakh in cash, 39 guns, over 300 rounds of ammo, explosives, and digital devices.
Legal cases have been filed against all suspects, who are now in custody until December 3—a big blow to Maoist networks in the region.
