Andhra Pradesh is getting India's 1st electric air-taxi hub
Andhra Pradesh and Sarla Aviation are building the "Sky Factory" in Anantapur—India's first big electric air-taxi manufacturing hub.
Announced on November 19, this project will handle everything for eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft): from making them to testing, certifying, and keeping them flying.
What makes the Sky Factory special?
Set on a massive 500-acre campus with ₹1,300 crore backing it, Sky Factory plans to roll out up to 1,000 e-air taxis every year.
The site will have its own wind tunnel (the country's largest), a two-kilometer runway, R&D labs, pilot training centers—you name it.
It hopes to create specialized jobs and indirect jobs and help put Andhra Pradesh on the global map for futuristic flight.
Why does this matter?
The project lines up with India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision—basically aiming for a high-tech future—and could see Andhra Pradesh join the ranks of global eVTOL hubs like California and Munich.
There's even talk of expanding the campus by another 350 acres down the line.
