Andhra professor duped in WhatsApp investment scam
A retired Andhra Pradesh professor, Dr. M. Batmanabane Mounissamy, lost nearly ₹2 crore after joining a WhatsApp group called "H-10 Nuvama Health Group," which pretended to offer insider investment tips for Nuvama Funds.
He was guided by someone posing as a company representative to a convincing but fake website, making the scam look legit.
Scam details and recovery efforts
Starting with a small ₹10,000 investment that quickly returned ₹13,000, Dr. Mounissamy was encouraged to pour in about ₹1.9 crore over five weeks by seeing fake profits on his account.
When he tried to withdraw his supposed gains of ₹5 crore, scammers demanded extra "processing fees," took another ₹7.9 lakh from him, then blocked all withdrawals.
After realizing he'd been duped, he reported it to the CBI in June 2025; now investigators are warning everyone to double-check investment offers and only trust official channels—especially when money's involved online.
