Another custodial violence case emerges in Theni

CCTV footage from a police station in Tamil Nadu's Theni district has revealed officers beating up an autorickshaw driver named Ramesh, who was reportedly drunk and causing a disturbance.
The video shows Ramesh pleading for mercy while being assaulted, which quickly led to public outrage and action against the officers.

Cops transferred, inquiry launched

After the footage surfaced, Inspector Abdullah and four other cops were transferred out of the station.
Advocate Pandiarajan obtained the video through an RTI request after witnessing the incident himself.
Police have now launched an official inquiry into what happened.
This case follows another recent incident of police violence in Sivaganga, raising bigger questions about accountability in custody.
