Army to acquire 2,408 Nag Mark 2 missiles
The Indian Army is about to add 2,408 new Nag Mark 2 anti-tank missiles and 107 NAMICA tracked vehicles to its arsenal, with the deal expected to get the green light at a Defence Acquisition Council meeting scheduled for October 23.
These third-generation, fire-and-forget missiles are fully homegrown—developed by DRDO and built by Bharat Dynamics Limited.
Nag Mark 2 missile's range and accuracy
The Nag Mark 2 stands out for its 7-10km range and advanced imaging infrared guidance, letting it hit targets accurately from a safe distance.
Paired with the NAMICA carrier, it's designed for quick moves on the battlefield.
Field trials earlier this year at Pokhran showed it could consistently destroy targets within its range.
Significance of the deal for India
This move is a big win for "Atmanirbhar Bharat"—India's push for self-reliance—since it strengthens the Army with locally made tech and reduces the need to buy from abroad.
For the Army, it means being better prepared for modern threats, with more control over its own gear.
