Assam STF arrests 12 in 33.73cr GST fake credit scam
Assam's Special Task Force (STF) just cracked a big GST scam, arresting 12 people, including alleged mastermind Vinit Kumar Poddar, who was picked up in Kolkata.
The group is accused of running a fake tax credit scheme worth ₹33.73 crore, with the investigation linking back to cases registered in June and July this year.
Rishikesh Kalita helped trace Kolkata suspects
Police say one suspect, Rishikesh Kalita, helped them track down Surajit Barman and Vivek Kumar Gupta, who were arrested from Kolkata's Tiljala area.
According to STF Senior Superintendent Pranab Kumar Pegu, all three arrested accused have been booked under non-bailable sections related to cheating, forgery and the use of forged documents, and it looks like this was not just an Assam thing but part of a bigger network across several states.
The hunt for more evidence and possible links is still on.
