Bangladeshi smugglers attack BSF, 1 fatality reported

An afternoon clash broke out near the Halderpara outpost in West Bengal's Nadia district when BSF personnel tried to stop a group of Bangladeshi smugglers sneaking gold into India.
Despite warnings, the smugglers crossed over and attacked a BSF jawan with sharp weapons, leaving him injured.

Police have filed an FIR and are investigating

Responding to the attack, another BSF jawan fired in self-defense, hitting one smuggler who later died at the hospital.
The rest escaped back into Bangladesh, abandoning their weapons at the spot.
Police have filed an FIR and are investigating both the assault and ongoing cross-border smuggling activities.
The injured BSF jawan is being treated.
