Bengaluru: Confident Group founder dies by suicide during IT raid
CJ Roy, 57, founder of Confident Group, died by suicide at his Bengaluru office on Friday, January 30, 2026, while Income Tax officials were conducting searches.
The incident happened between about 3:00pm and 3:10pm after going into his private cabin, Roy reportedly used a pistol that sources said was believed to be licensed.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Weapon used has been seized
Police have registered an unnatural death case and are checking CCTV footage from Roy's office. They've also seized the weapon used.
Roy's family claims he was under heavy pressure from tax officials, which they believe pushed him to this tragic step.
Roy loved luxury cars, shared glimpses on social media
Originally from Kochi, Roy built Confident Group into a big name in real estate across India and abroad, with projects in Kerala, Karnataka, Dubai, UAE.
He also dabbled in hospitality and entertainment.
Known for his love of luxury cars—think Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII, Bugatti Veyron—Roy often shared glimpses of his high-end lifestyle on social media.
