Bengaluru's MG Road is finally getting a long-overdue makeover
After nearly 40 years, Bengaluru's iconic MG Road is set for a big upgrade.
Starting after Republic Day (January 26, 2026), BWSSB will dig up a 2.2-km stretch to swap out the old, leaky water and sanitary pipelines that have been bothering local shops for years.
The work—going about 10 feet wide—kicks off after Republic Day, with coordination between BWSSB, traffic police, and local leaders planned to minimize disruption.
What's changing and why it matters
The new pipes are designed to last another four decades and will even support nearby military and police facilities—so no more constant leaks or contamination worries for businesses.
Once the pipe work wraps up, the city will resurface MG Road with faster Stone Matrix Asphalt (ditching the slower white-topping plan), aiming to make commutes smoother and life easier for everyone who hangs out or works in this busy spot.
