BHC allows 15-year-old to terminate pregnancy, says mental health at risk

India

The Bombay High Court has allowed a 15-year-old girl to terminate her pregnancy, which resulted from sexual assault by her neighbor.
The court recognized that carrying the pregnancy further could seriously harm her mental health and disrupt her education—especially since she has borderline intellectual functioning.
Her parents stood by her decision.

Court orders procedure at JJ Hospital

A psychiatric report made it clear the minor wasn't ready for motherhood, warning of risks like depression and anxiety.
The judges ordered the procedure at JJ Hospital.
The court was informed that the girl wished to recover and prepare for her matriculation exams in March 2026.
The court also told the state to quickly provide financial help under the Manodhairya Scheme, which supports young survivors in rebuilding their lives.
