Bihar launches Viksit Bharat Guarantee replacing MGNREGA with 125 days
Bihar is rolling out a new rural job scheme called the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), set to kick off July 1.
With a budget of ₹6,715.83 crore, this program will take over from MGNREGA and promises 125 days of wage employment to every willing rural household in a financial year.
Scheme to pay 1,890cr via DBT
Every adult member of a rural family willing to do unskilled manual work will be entitled to 125 days of guaranteed employment in a financial year, with up to 60 work-free days during busy farming seasons so labor isn't pulled away from the fields.
Wages, ₹1,890 crore worth, will go straight into workers' bank accounts via DBT.
Existing e-KYC verified MGNREGA job cards will stay valid until new VB-G RAM G cards are issued.
Local gram panchayats will run the show on the ground, making Bihar one of the early states to fully transition to the new national framework as part of India's Viksit Bharat at 2047 vision.
