7th Pay Commission: Pay hike announced for 7.5lakh college teachers

In a move that would benefit 7.5 lakh teachers of central and state universities, Union Cabinet has given its nod for extending the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission to them. The announcement was made by Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar. Faculty at central universities, centrally-funded deemed universities, state universities, and government/private aided colleges affiliated to state universities will receive the pay hike.

Details
22-28% pay hike approved by Union Cabinet

Javadekar said the Cabinet cleared pay hike ranging between 22-28% for the faculty members on the basis of their seniority. Teachers at the universities can expect their salaries to increase by an amount between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000. Faculty at Central government's institutions/universities would receive the benefits immediately while those at universities/colleges run by states may have to wait a little longer.

After the Union Cabinet meeting, HRD Minister Javadekar said, "We need to attract talent and give good salaries to our teaching staff and to retain them." He said it was an attempt to do justice to the faculty at higher education institutions.
