Cat owners in Lucknow need this 'purrmit' now

India

Lucknow is rolling out a new rule: every cat owner has to get an annual license for their furry friend.
It costs ₹500 and you'll need your Aadhar card plus proof that your cat's vaccinations are up to date.
Skip it, and you could face a ₹1,000 fine.
The goal? To encourage responsible pet care and help keep rabies in check.

The process is smooth, LMC assures

Licenses are issued offline at the Animal Welfare Officer's office near LMC headquarters, and even stray cats can be registered if someone steps up for them.
Some folks online had fun with the idea of a "purrmit," but others agree it's a smart move for public health.
LMC officials say they want the process to be smooth—Afsar Ali from LMC shared, "We are here to assist citizens in completing the paperwork smoothly. It is about ensuring that pets are safe, healthy, and vaccinated," assured Ali.
