Chennai dazzled by Geminid meteor shower

India

Chennai's skies put on a show as the Geminid meteor shower peaked between December 14 and 15, sending bright streaks across the night.
Unlike most meteor showers, this one comes from an asteroid—3200 Phaethon—and can produce up to 100 meteors an hour if you catch it under clear, dark skies.
The event drew both seasoned stargazers and curious first-timers eager for a glimpse.

How to catch the best view (and what people saw)

Tamil Nadu Weatherman Pradeep John suggested heading out after midnight and away from city lights for the best experience—no telescope needed.
Even with some clouds around, plenty of people spotted meteors and shared their excitement online, making it a trending topic among Chennai's skywatchers.
