Chennai on orange alert as Cyclone Ditwah's leftovers drench city

India

Chennai and six nearby districts are on orange alert after heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds hit the region thanks to what's left of Cyclone Ditwah.
Even though the cyclone has weakened, it's still causing serious waterlogging across Chennai.
The IMD says flooding, travel issues, and lightning are likely for a bit longer.

Why does this matter?

Schools and colleges are closed in several districts, and fishing along parts of the Bay of Bengal is paused for safety.
The IMD expects rough weather until December 5, so people are being urged to stay indoors unless it's necessary to head out.
Sadly, four people have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents—so it's really important to take these warnings seriously.
