Coimbatore International Airport begins Ebola screening for arrivals following advisories
Coimbatore International Airport is now screening all arriving passengers for Ebola, following government advisories about outbreaks in parts of Africa.
Travelers have to fill out a quick self-declaration form on the plane, sharing any symptoms, recent travel history (last 21 days), and whether they've been in contact with a person who traveled to affected countries like Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan during the past 21 days.
No symptomatic cases at Coimbatore airport
When passengers land, health officers check these forms and sort people into "asymptomatic" or "symptomatic."
If anyone shows symptoms, they're immediately isolated and checked by airport medical staff and will be shifted to the designated hospital for the treatment of the virus through a State-provided ambulance.
So far, there haven't been any symptomatic cases at Coimbatore International Airport.
Airport director Mohammad Arif says everything is running by the book and announcements are being made on board flights to keep travelers informed.
