Cyclone Ditwah: Tamil Nadu on high alert as storm approaches

India

Cyclone Ditwah is heading toward the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh coast, with the IMD issuing red alerts for these regions.
Expect very heavy rain, strong winds up to 70km/h, and possible urban flooding.
This comes just after Sri Lanka faced deadly floods that left at least 123 people dead.

Why does this matter?

Coastal districts like Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Chengalpattu are set for the worst of the rain, while places like Tirupati and Chittoor could also get hit hard.
Flights are already canceled and emergency shelters are open.
Officials warn of power cuts, tree falls, damaged buildings, flooded streets—and even risks to crops—so everyone's being told to stay safe and avoid the sea during the cyclone warning period.
