Cyclones Arnab and Murasu: over ₹500Cr damage to Andhra power
Andhra Pradesh's energy sector just took a massive hit: Cyclones Arnab and Murasu caused over ₹500 crore in damage. Cyclone Murasu alone damaged more than 7,500 electricity poles.
Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar toured cyclone-affected areas in the Addanki and Santhanuthalapadu Assembly constituencies in Prakasam district, describing the damage to electricity lines, conductors and distribution transformers as extensive, but assured that teams are working fast to fix things.
AP power restoration targeted Saturday evening
The goal is to get electricity back everywhere by Saturday evening. Godavari districts already have power, while other places are about 70% restored thanks to over 3,000 extra workers from neighboring states pitching in.
The minister also checked on local farms (crops like maize, banana, and tobacco were badly affected) and directed officials to complete a speedy and transparent assessment of crop losses.
