'Death corridor': 280+ lives lost on Hyderabad-Chevella stretch since 2018
The Hyderabad-Chevella stretch of NH-163 has sadly become known as a "death corridor," with more than 280 people losing their lives between 2018 and December 2024.
Locals point to narrow roads, sharp blind curves, and a lack of basic safety features—like dividers, crash barriers, and reflectors—as major reasons behind the frequent accidents on this busy 100-km route.
Locals urge authorities to upgrade road's design
People living along the highway are urging authorities to upgrade the road's design, saying it just can't handle today's heavy traffic.
Many are frustrated by delays in widening the road and adding essentials like dividers, while other needed upgrades such as proper lighting have also been identified.
Meanwhile, local hospitals are overwhelmed with accident cases every day, often having to send seriously injured patients to bigger cities for treatment—which really shows how urgent these safety improvements are.
