A car explosion near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday killed around 13 people and injured at least 20 others. The blast, which also caused a fire that damaged several vehicles parked nearby, occurred near gate number one of the Red Fort metro station, NDTV said, citing the fire services. While the cause is under investigation, probe agencies suspect it was a terror attack.

In the wake of the blast, global leaders have expressed their shock and grief. The United States Embassy in India issued a security alert for its citizens, advising them to avoid areas around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. "Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi," it said.

The United Kingdom's High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, also expressed her sorrow over the incident. "The Embassy also conveys its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims," it said in a statement. A spokesperson for the Taliban said, "strongly condemned the terrorist attack" and expressed condolences to the victim's families.
