Delhi court sends Al Falah University founder to ED custody
Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, chairman and founder of Al Falah Group, has been sent to 13 days of Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody after being arrested for alleged money laundering tied to a major fraud at Al Falah University.
The court believes there's enough evidence that Siddiqui was involved in cheating and forgery, with his arrest happening on November 18, 2024, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
What's the case about and where does it stand?
Authorities say Al Falah University collected ₹415 crore in student fees from 2018-2024 by falsely claiming expired accreditations and faking UGC recognition.
The ED found at least nine shell companies linked to Siddiqui, plus contracts given to firms run by his family—hinting at fund diversion.
Searches across 19 locations turned up ₹48 lakh in cash and loads of digital evidence.
Siddiqui will stay in ED custody until December 1, 2024 as investigators dig deeper into the money trail.
