Delhi government proposes up to 8x hike in agricultural land rates

India

Delhi might soon see a big jump in agricultural land prices, with the government proposing to raise official rates by up to eight times—the first update since 2008.
This means land valued at ₹53 lakh per acre could go up to ₹5 crore, aiming to match real market prices and stop revenue loss from low registration values.

What's changing and who's affected?

The exact hike will depend on where the land is and how it's used—urbanizing areas may see smaller increases, while purely rural spots could get bigger bumps.
The plan comes after talks with farmers and others, and more discussions are promised before anything is final.
Meanwhile, a committee is also reviewing rates for homes and shops, but those changes will take longer.
