Delhi LG's residence gets a new name: Lok Niwas

India

Delhi's Raj Niwas, the official home and office of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, is now called Lok Niwas.
Following directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Lt Governor Secretariat made it official on December 3, 2025, and the official X handle was updated accordingly.

Why the change?

This is part of a bigger move to swap out colonial-era names in government buildings across India.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared that Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas in several states are being renamed Lok Bhavan and Lok Niwas.
The idea is to highlight public service (Seva) over power—think of it like when Rajpath became Kartavya Path or the PM's new office was named Seva Teerth.

What does it mean?

These changes aren't just about names—they're about shifting India's focus toward citizen-first governance and responsibility over authority.
It's a cultural reset for public spaces, aiming to make them feel more connected to people today.
