Delhi schools pause outdoor activities as pollution spikes
India
Delhi schools have been told by the Supreme Court to stop all outdoor activities, including sports, during the city's worst pollution months.
This move follows a petition from students and a push from the Delhi High Court to shift outdoor events away from November to January, when air quality is at its lowest.
Why does this matter?
Delhi's air quality is currently "very poor," with an AQI of 373.
Kids are especially at risk—breathing in this toxic air can cause lasting lung damage, asthma attacks, and even affect their immune systems.
Every winter, hospitals see a big jump in children coming in with breathing problems, so keeping students indoors right now is about keeping them safe.
