Delhi's artificial rain experiment delayed
Delhi's big plan to make it rain and fight pollution has been put on hold.
The city's first cloud seeding trial, set for July 4-11 and led by IIT Kanpur and the IMD, can't go ahead yet because the weather isn't cooperating.
The ₹3.21 crore project would have seen planes spraying special salts over parts of Delhi to trigger rainfall, but the right kind of clouds just aren't showing up.
Need specific weather conditions for cloud seeding to work
Cloud seeding is basically science's way of nudging clouds to drop some extra rain—something that could help clear out Delhi's stubborn air pollution, especially after monsoon season when things get worse.
But for it to work, you need specific weather conditions that are tough to predict.
So for now, officials are waiting for better skies before trying again.
