Delhi's fuel ban questioned amid aging aircraft use

Delhi has just banned petrol cars over 15 years old and diesel ones over 10 years from refueling, impacting over 62 lakh vehicles.
Former Air Force officer Sanjeev Kapoor called out the move, asking why only personal vehicles are targeted when "we are still flying aircraft that are over 40 years old" and using trains, busses, and planes that are decades old.

TL;DR

Why the rule

The rule is meant to fight Delhi's pollution crisis—vehicles make up more than half the city's emissions.
The government is using cameras linked to a database to spot violators, who risk a ₹10,000 fine and losing their ride.

Enforcement light on day 1

On day one, enforcement was light with just 80 vehicles seized.
Many owners feel it's unfair that well-maintained cars lose value while older commercial vehicles keep running.
The rule will expand across NCR by April 2026.
