Delhi's IGI Airport runway closure slows operations
Delhi's IGI Airport is closing Runway 28/10 from June 15 to September 15 for a big upgrade. Over 200 flights a day will be affected, with about 114 canceled and 86 rescheduled daily. The goal? To make the runway CAT-IIIB compliant so planes can land even in thick winter fog.
Around 7.5-8% drop in overall flight numbers expected
With around 1,450 flights usually taking off each day, expect around a 7.5% to 7.8% drop in operations. Airlines like IndiGo and Air India will cut back schedules, and many flights are being shifted to less busy hours to keep things moving as smoothly as possible.
Upgrade to help planes land even in thick fog
Delhi winters are famous for heavy fog that often throws flight plans into chaos. This upgrade aims to fix that—once done, planes should be able to land even when visibility is super low. It's all about making travel less stressful when weather gets tricky.
