Dharmalingam Venugopal urges Tamil Nadu CM to reconvene Cauvery talks
India
Dharmalingam Venugopal of the Nilgiris Documentation Centre wants Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister to bring Karnataka and Kerala together for a fresh talk on the long-running Cauvery water dispute.
These three states, once part of the old Madras Presidency, all depend on rivers fed by the Western Ghats, so sharing water is a big deal for everyone.
Venugopal proposes Ooty talks, science-led approach
Venugopal suggests holding the meeting in Ooty, which actually hosted similar talks way back in 1890, 1922, and 1929.
He thinks it's time to use science and technology to solve today's challenges like climate change and rising water demand.
As he puts it, The water needs of these fast developing states, which account for one fifth of the national GDP, are bound to increase manifold in the future.
