DNA mismatch in plane crash victim identification

After the Ahmedabad plane crash, officials are asking families of eight victims for new DNA samples because the first ones didn't match.
As Rakesh Joshi from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital explained, they can't release any bodies until there's a confirmed DNA match—this is crucial for proper identification and to follow the rules.

TL;DR

How the identification process works

The forensic team is working to identify everyone. They extract DNA from remains and compare it with blood samples from relatives.
If there's no match at first, they reach out to other close family members for more samples.

231 victims identified so far

So far, 231 victims have been identified and 210 bodies returned to their families.
Teams across departments are speeding up the process so families can get closure as soon as possible—while still making sure everything is done by the book.
